Low back pain or lower back pain is another very common condition among chiropractic patients. Low back pain can be excruciating and can range on the pain scale from very mild and sore to extremely disabling. Carlsbad chiropractor Dr. Greg Frost has been treating patients with low back pain for more than 25 years and he has seen it all. If you have low back pain, you can rest assured that he will find the most appropriate low back pain treatment for you. Let’s briefly go over low back pain causes, types and treatments.
The Different Types of Low Back Pain
• Pain felt across the lower back in a belt-like manner
• Pain felt only on the lower right or only on the lower left side of the back
• Pain felt on one lower side (right or left) and down one corresponding leg
• Pain felt only in the legs but no back pain
What Causes Low Back Pain
Dr. Frost says that a lot of the time the cause of low back pain is unknown, in fact, many of his patients simply wake up with low back pain. However, low back pain can have a range of common causes, some of which include the following:
1. Bending, twisting and lifting all at the same time – causing muscle tearing, ligament tearing or stretching and disk tearing
2. Trauma such as car accidents or sport related accidents

How We Approach Low Back Pain
The first step in treating lower back pain is determining the cause and examining the symptoms. In many cases, the cause can be unknown but the symptoms will give Dr. Frost a clue how to approach the treatment so that healing can take place. It is important to treat back pain in the first 24 to 72 hours before the spine locks down and you risk of being stuck with chronic back pain.
Dr. Frost utilizes a number of treatments to heal low back pain, including lumbar exercises, chiropractic manipulation of the spine and surrounding muscles as well as physical therapy. The goal of treatment is to get the spine back into its natural position and encourage mobilization. If there is instability, a low back brace may be prescribed along with turmeric, a natural substance that helps with inflammation in the body.
